I’m the type of person who is all for trying new things, but when the TRX frame was first set up in my gym I have to admit that I was intimidated. I...watched a couple of demo classes, and I brushed it off as something beyond my capabilities, as I am a bigger girl, and didn’t give TRX another thought for a few months. I had been attending group exercise classes taught by Pat Corkum for about a year and a half, and found out he was going to be teaching TRX as well. He is an amazing instructor, and knows my strengths and weaknesses. He convinced me to try a demo class to see how I liked it. And to my surprise, I enjoyed it very much! I purchased 18 sessions, and I’m not going to lie, every single one of those classes were challenging and made my body ache in places I didn’t know it could! Sometimes I found myself getting really frustrated, because my body refused to do what I wanted it to. But each time I tried again, and gradually I began to notice a difference. The lunges were getting a little bit easier, the rows a little bit deeper, and I was able to get up and hold planks – something I had never done before in my life. By the time the last class came I was nervous, wondering if I really had improved. Not only did I improve, I blew my beginning numbers (two of which I started out at 0!) out of the water! As an added bonus, during my TRX training I had lost 16 lbs! I have been doing my own exercises to try and maintain the strength I’ve gained through my TRX classes. The other day I completed a full body weight circuit at my gym. The most I have ever been able to back press before was 240 lbs. The other day I maxed out this particular machine, which goes to 300 lbs! I was able to increase an average of 15-20 lbs on most of the other weight machines. My only complaint about TRX is it seems to have ruined me for going back to my “regular” routine! I find it is getting more difficult to give myself the burn, or the muscle soreness I am craving. I am looking forward to doing more classes in the future. Pat is an amazing TRX coach and takes the time to get to know each of his clients. He offers options when needed, and he has the ability and passion that drives you to want to work harder each and every time. Pat’s coaching techniques give you the strength to believe in yourself, and the desire to try things that you dismissed as being impossible. He helped me find the courage to “try”. Now I have the courage to “do”. Thanks Pat!.
